I deleted my Japan eSIM or switched phones: can I reinstall it?

Published by WakamoLast updated 2026-10-2110 sources, each with its access date

Short answer

Apple says that if you erase an eSIM you need to contact the carrier for a new one, and not to erase it as a troubleshooting step unless the carrier tells you to. A move onto another phone works only when that carrier supports the phone's transfer, and Wakamo does not publish a reinstall or a phone-to-phone transfer for a Japan plan.

Whether the phone you switched to supports eSIM, and whether it has to be unlocked, is covered in Does my phone support eSIM for Japan, and does it need to be unlocked?.

FAQ

Can I scan the same QR code again after I delete the eSIM?

Apple says that if you erase an eSIM, you need to contact the carrier to get a new one, and then set up that new eSIM. A Wakamo account can still show the installation details from the purchase. This page does not say that scanning those details again puts a deleted plan back on the phone.

Should I delete the eSIM if it has no data?

No. Apple says not to erase an eSIM as a troubleshooting step unless the carrier directs you to.

Is turning the line off the same as deleting it?

No. On a Pixel, Google's control for turning a SIM off is Use this SIM, and deleting is Erase eSIM. On iPhone, Apple's erase labels are Delete eSIM and Delete Plan.

Will eSIM Quick Transfer move a Japan plan to a new iPhone?

Only if that carrier supports eSIM Quick Transfer. Apple requires both iPhones signed in with your Apple Account, the previous iPhone unlocked with its passcode, nearby with Bluetooth on, and on iOS 18.4 or later. When the cellular plan on the new iPhone activates, Apple says it deactivates the previous SIM. Wakamo does not publish that a Japan plan supports this transfer.

Can I move it from an Android phone to an iPhone?

Apple says you may need to contact the carrier, who transfers the phone number by eSIM Carrier Activation or a QR code. With iOS 26 or later, some carriers support a direct transfer, and Apple's Japan list for that transfer is au and UQ. The iPhone has to be an iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, or later, on iOS 26 or later, and the Android phone a compatible model on Android 16 or later. If it is not supported, Apple says to contact the carrier. After a completed transfer, the SIM on the Android phone deactivates.

Can I transfer it to a Pixel?

Google says a transfer to a new phone depends on the carrier. If the phone does not detect it, contact the carrier to activate the eSIM. Google says the existing device or eSIM can still work if the transfer does not succeed. Automatic transfer needs Android 12 or later, the current Google Play Services, and a screen lock on both phones.

Which carriers does Samsung list for a Galaxy transfer?

Samsung says carriers that may allow eSIM Instant Transfer include NTT Docomo, KDDI, SoftBank, and UQ Mobile in Japan. Transfer from an iPhone, on that same page, lists KDDI and UQ Mobile in Japan. If the carrier is not on the list Samsung gives for that transfer, Samsung says to contact the carrier. Those lists are Samsung's, for the carriers named there.

If I remove the plan on a Galaxy, is the carrier plan cancelled?

Samsung Malaysia says removing the plan on the Galaxy does not affect the subscription with the carrier, and that you contact the carrier to terminate or suspend it. That sentence is about the carrier subscription. It is not a statement about a Wakamo plan.

Does a top-up put a deleted eSIM back on the phone?

No. Wakamo help says a top-up adds data to the profile already on the phone. There is no new QR code and nothing to reinstall. If the plan cannot be topped up, you buy a new plan.

What if the Wakamo eSIM has expired?

The account says an expired eSIM can no longer be used, and that you can order the same plan again any time. Another installation email is available only while the eSIM is still working, unexpired, and not cancelled.

Who do I contact about a Wakamo Japan plan?

Email [email protected]. Include the order email or reference, the destination, the phone model, and what happened. Keep installation codes private. Wakamo help does not describe a new eSIM after a deletion or a phone change.
