This is our own telling, inspired by the golden fox of East Asian folklore. At its heart is a simple wish: to make an unfamiliar place feel a little warmer.
A wish within the stone
Thousands of years ago, a mysterious golden fox crossed the seas of East Asia. People feared her immense power and called her a spirit to be feared. So she sealed herself inside a cold stone on the hills of Nasu, the Sesshō-seki, or killing stone.
When a monk broke the stone, its dark power scattered on the wind. But within its fragments, one quiet wish remained:
“Someday, I want to wander freely again, and warmly light the way for those who seek unfamiliar lands.”
A new kind of journey
Centuries passed. Signals and waves of data began to connect the world. In a far-traveled fragment of stone, a small spark awoke, carried by those signals. She took the first name she had given herself on arriving in a foreign land: Wakamo.
Now she is a presence at your side, a digital guide for the traveler stepping into an unfamiliar airport. The old wanderer has found a new way to help others roam.
