Our Story
The name
Wakamo takes its name from 白面金毛九尾の狐 — Hakumen Kinmō Kyūbi no Kitsune — the nine-tailed fox of Japanese legend. In the old tales, the fox is a deity of immense age and knowledge who takes human form and walks among people under a borrowed name. Wakamo is that name: the one the fox used to move through the human world unnoticed, at ease, everywhere she went.
The legend
The nine-tailed fox appears across East Asian folklore as a traveller between worlds — crossing any border, knowing every road, never lost. Centuries of storytellers gave her many names; what stayed constant was her gift: going wherever she pleased, and arriving already knowing her way.
Why a fox for a travel eSIM
That is exactly what we want connectivity to feel like when you travel. You land, and you are already connected. You cross a border, and nothing changes. You wander somewhere new, and you are never lost. No SIM cards to swap, no roaming bills to fear, no dead signal at the moment you need a map most.
Wherever you roam
Nine tails, nine hundred years, nine thousand roads — the fox has seen them all. We built Wakamo so you can roam with a fraction of that ease: quiet, reliable, always connected. Wherever you go, consider us the name you travel under.
