Questions Canadians ask
The questions we hear most before a first Montserrat trip.
Will it work on my phone?
Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Most phones sold since about 2018 have eSIM: iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and most recent Samsung Galaxy models. Check your exact model before you buy. It takes about ten seconds.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?
Yes, even if the model supports eSIM. The good news for Canadians: every phone sold by a Canadian carrier since December 2017 is unlocked by law. If your phone is older than that, Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom and Videotron will all unlock it for you, usually free and usually the same day.
Can I keep my Canadian number?
Yes. The Wakamo eSIM sits beside your existing SIM rather than replacing it. Your Canadian number stays active for calls and texts, and you set the eSIM as your data line. Leave data roaming switched off on your Canadian line so your carrier cannot bill you for it.
When does my plan start counting down?
When the eSIM first connects to a network in Montserrat — not when you buy it. Nothing starts until you land, so you can buy as far ahead as you like. One caution: installing the eSIM makes the order non-refundable under our refund policy, so install it once your travel plans are firm.
What happens if I run out of data?
The connection stops. You are never charged for overage, and there is no bill waiting for you when you get home. Every Montserrat plan supports top-up, so you can add more data from your account in a couple of minutes.
What if activation does not work when I land?
Find any wi-fi, hotel or airport lounge, and email [email protected]. Travelling customers are answered before anyone else. If you lost the email, use our resend page to get the QR code again. If we cannot get you connected, you get your money back in full.
Which networks will I use in Montserrat?
